Day 1: Flight to Israel, arrival in Tel Aviv and drive to Tiberias

Hello Family and Friends,
This is my first post from Israel. The flight to Tel Aviv went surprisingly fast. I think I slept for good 7 hours!  We left New York one hour later than scheduled, so we also arrived later. But the time waiting for boarding was well spent getting to know my fellow pilgrims. We have a really wonderful group. Here are a couple of pictures from New York and Tel Aviv

Our tour guide is Joseph and our bus driver is Jalal, both wonderful Orthodox local men. The bus ride to the Ron Beach Hotel in Tiberias took 2 hours, during which we drove north from Tel Aviv to the Sea of Galilee (also known as Lake Tiberias). Our hotel is right on the lake. We could not see too much of the lake in the dark, other than the lights of towns on opposite side of the water. The hotel is very beautiful, with a swimming pool, palm trees, tropical plants in the garden.....And food for dinner was amazing!  Buffet style with Mediterrenian dishes: fish, chicken, vegetables, salads, desserts......No chance to keep the weight with which we arrived here, we all agreed about that!!  So this was a very short day, just a drive, dinner and then to bed.

Well, more on today's day later. I do need to keep up with this, as I already forget what we did today (the first day). But I kept good notes, so I hope to give a good summary later. It is difficult to keep remembering that these are the places our Lord Jesus Christ walked, lived, healed people. The areas seem so touristy now, so much of the spiritual meaning is lost with the souvenir shops and in some cases strange looking churches built over the holy sites. But more on that later........ Time for dinner and after dinner I will tell you about today.... :)
